Chambers and Brighty have a brand new fleet from Coleman Milne

Chambers & Brighty

Chambers & Brighty have recently taken delivery of their first brand new fleet of Coleman Milne vehicles. Ian Chambers and Jeff Brighty set up a joint venture in September 2000, after 45 years experience as funeral directors, and have achieved their goal of providing the local community of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire with the best possible service.

Jeff and Ian looked at all the vehicles available in the marketplace, and chose the Coleman Milne Ford for its huge interior space and effortless performance. A contributing factor was the large number of standard features like the adjustable air suspension, the battery guard and many more.

All at Coleman Milne wish Ian and Jeff continued success in their business.

After 5 years working for Miller’s, Stuart has now gained a controlling interest in the business. Stuarts aim is to repeat Millers recent 100 years’ celebration by keeping the business independent for the next 100 years as well.

Over the years this true family business has had many vehicles, but has again decided on a Coleman Milne vehicle because of their reliability, and because of the quality of service and support they have always received from Coleman Milne.

Coleman Milne for W H Mason & Sons

Mason

At Coleman Milne we have the ‘Pedigree’ to build bespoke bodies for Rolls-Royce vehicles and carry out specialist conversion work. We have been doing it since the 1920’s. That is the reason why the Mason Family has chosen a Coleman Milne Rolls – Royce adaptation into a hearse.

Since the mid 1700’s the Mason Family have taken great care providing high quality services and are equipped with the most modern facilities to provide the care necessary in all aspects of the profession. This new addition to their fleet is only another declaration about the standards W H Mason & Son want to offer to their communities.

Coleman Milne and the first delivery to the Middlehurst Family

Middlehurst

Having worked in the funeral profession for many years, Mr. Neil Middlehurst has wisely decided to start his own business and use his experience in the benefit of the St Helens community. He has recently refurbished the premises of his business to provide excellent facilities for his clients. The next obvious step was to complement his investment, and Coleman Milne was proud to provide a beautiful Coleman Milne Approved Pre-owned Mk10 Cardinal Hearse at an excellent price. They were so happy with the purchase that the family also bought an Approved Pre-owned Mk10 Limousine.

All at Coleman Milne wish Neil and his colleagues at Neil Middlehurst Funeral Directors all the best in their future endeavors.

A Tradition of Craftsmanship

Mellor is one of the industry’s oldest established and leading manufacturers of specialist passenger carrying vehicles, with a tradition going back over 50 years at Rochdale.

Tom Mellor, a Rochdale Ford car dealer, founded what is now Mellor Coachcraft in the 1960s. His workshop originally built commercial vehicles such as vans and tipper trucks, but Tom was a member of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and through that organisation he was approached by customers who wanted him to diversify into minibuses. The first was a Ford Transit for North West Water in 1965, but others for Manchester social services soon followed. The business prospered and within 10 years Tom had built the premises, since then extended with a paint shop and offices that Mellor Coachcraft occupies today.  Mellor’s place in the history of the UK bus industry was assured when it became a key supplier to Transit Holdings during the minibus revolution of the mid to late 1980’s. Today, this vibrant business is part of the privately owned Woodall Nicholson Group and prides itself on the quality of product and service it delivers to its targeted local authority customers.

The Woodall Nicholson Group has a £20m turnover and employs around 170 people. There are three distinct businesses: Coleman Milne, Mellor Coachcraft and Mellor Vancraft. Specialist coachbuilder Coleman Milne based at Woodall Nicholson’s headquarters in Westhoughton, Bolton continues to build bespoke hearses and limousines using the latest technology combined with traditional craft skills such as woodworking, cabinet making, and upholstery. Ford, Mercedes Benz and other brands are used and there is also an Emergency Services division that has build thousands of units from prisoner transfer, riot control to Police dog handling vehicles.

A dedicated van conversion facility was opened at Westhoughton 13 years ago, in a new factory build on land adjacent to Coleman Milne. Mellor Vancraft has two seven stage production lines with inspection pits and a paint shop.

Over the years, Mellor Coachcraft has developed specialist expertise in the manufacture of accessible buses. Today, the company is the acknowledged market leader in the supply of accessible vehicles to local authorities and user group’s across the UK and is one of the largest engineering based employers in Rochdale.

Build quality is promoted by a senior management team, who have worked in the industry all their lives.  Many staff has spent most of their working lives with Mellor. Like Mr David Clegg who has been working in the sales office since 1965 or Mr Geoff Hudson that started working in the factory at the age of 16 as an apprentice coach builder and is now one of the owners of the company.

The current product range varies from Iveco Daily, Mercedes Sprinter and Vario, Fiat Ducato and Volkswagen Crafter. Whether you need one or a hundred vehicles, 3 or 33 seats, Mellor Coachcraft has the know how, production resources and finishing skills to offer you the vehicles with the best whole-life cost in the industry. At Mellor, it’s not merely a slogan, but an overriding philosophy that drives the company forward – a philosophy that keeps customers coming back again and again. With most things in life, if you put a lot in, you get a lot out. Mellor Vehicles are no exception. With quality built in at every stage of production, it’s no surprise that Mellor vehicles go on performing well for the whole of their considerable lifetime.

British Engineering

1

There’s a certain quality about the Coleman Milne Vehicles. Whether it’s their distinctive design or their performance, they all have a presence that commands respect. And all that is supported by the magnificent people that work with these cars every day, making them what they are, pouring all of their experience, knowledge and passion into every hearse and limousine that comes out of our factory. It is our determination to create the best British manufactured funeral vehicles, and we are able to do that because our engineers really care. So we are proud to announce the start of production of our own, locally made funeral range of Mercedes Benz E 212. A unique and highly distinctive car, built with your safety and comfort in mind, and now you can have it manufactured right here in the UK.

Dave Terry, Director of Engineering says: “Developing the Mercedes E212 to bring it to market as a unique UK built project has generated many challenges for us at Coleman Milne. Our engineers have had to overcome many issues as diverse as making the external body styling work for both the hearse and the limousine, to working with our specialist partners ,to resolve the a multitude of technical problems that are created by producing funeral vehicles on this base car. It would have been simple to pursue the same route as other suppliers and work with the German produced funeral base vehicle, but we believed that the challenge to make the car completely within our factories in Westhoughton was worth the effort, especially in this economic climate, and in fact, many of our customers drove us down this path. We believe the finished product meets the exacting standards we set ourselves at the onset of this project, to develop, build and supply to the UK funeral sector, a UK built solution”

It is our passion for perfection that drives Coleman Milne to lead the way in funeral vehicles, our commitment and reassurance that all our limousines, hearses, and removal ambulances are designed and built by craftsmen using the very best materials to the highest standards of quality.
